600-kg NASA Satellite Returning to Earth Noida

Published date: March 10, 2026
  • Location: Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India

A 600-kg NASA satellite, part of the Van Allen Probes mission launched in 2012, is expected to re-enter Earth’s atmosphere after nearly 14 years in orbit. Scientists say most of the spacecraft will burn up due to atmospheric friction, with only small fragments possibly surviving. The risk to people on Earth is extremely low. NASA and the US Space Force are closely monitoring the satellite’s descent as it approaches atmospheric re-entry.
